The fuelsync® test
Perfect if you want to fuel with confidence, using data that is as strong as your ambition.

RESEARCH-BACKED TEST, “THE ORIGINATORS”

The fuelsync® test measures exogenous glucose oxidation rate – or how effectively your body can use ingested carbohydrates as an energy source during exercise. It was validated in our published research, the first showing measuring exogenous glucose oxidation can help personalise carbohydrate feeding.

WORLD-LEADING EXPERTISE, TRUSTED RESULTS

With over 20 years’ experience measuring exogenous carbohydrate oxidation, we know all the pitfalls. That’s why fuelsync® tests are supervised by experts in a lab, using research grade gold-standard equipment, techniques and protocols. Even your breath samples are analysed in-house using our specialised equipment, giving us complete quality control over the process.

Our robust, research-based approach ensures your individual peak capacity to use ingested carbohydrates as an energy source during exercise. We trust our science, and you can trust the results.

  • No need for full gas. The fuelsync® test is done at a moderate and steady state exercise intensity, just below the first lactate threshold.

This intensity is sustainable for the duration of the test, while still placing a high demand for carbohydrate as an energy source.

  • Duration matters. 90 minutes is not enough. Most athletes take 120-150 minutes (i.e., 2-2.5 hours) of exercise to reach their peak capacity to use ingested carbohydrates as fuel. The fuelsync® test consists of 2.5 hours of exercise (running or cycling), so you don’t miss your peak.

  • You'll take a concentrated glucose drink to take at 15-minute intervals during the test. The fuelsync® test uses research-standard carbon-13 stable isotope techniques to follow the path of the glucose in the drink.

  • We collect breath samples every 30 minutes during exercise to determine how much of the ingested carbohydrates from the drink your body can use for energy during exercise.
